The Beneficial AGI 2019 conference (held in Puerto Rico from January 4 to 7, 2019) discussed the way human beings could build the best future together with artificial general intelligence (AGI), which would bring about major transformation in society. Hiroshi Yamakawa, the chairperson of WBAI, participated in the conference with activities including:
- Poster: “The Whole Brain Architecture: Now Feasible“
- Panel Discussion: “Would we prefer AGI to be conscious?”
- Lightning Pitch: “Specifications of brain-inspired AGI development for everyone“
WBAI has been cooperating with Future of Life Institute (FLI), which hosted the conference, in activities such as: Japanese translation of the Asilomar AI principles (2017), an interview with the chairperson by FLI “Understanding Artificial General Intelligence – An Interview with Hiroshi Yamakawa” (2017), and joint booth setting at AI-EXPO 2018 in Tokyo.
WBAI aims to promote AGI development towards the vision of “a world in which AI exists in harmony with humanity.” We held local symposia with themes along this vision: “To Beneficial AGI” (2017) and “Path to Good General Intelligence by Learning from the Brain” (2018). Thus, we would like to continue to contribute to the development of AGI in a form beneficial to humanity.
